In Atticus’s speech in the courtroom during the trial, he does say the N-word but we must ignore the language and really take time to understand the importance of what he is actually saying. A book should not be banned because the censors do not want students to read about racism, violence, or the language. Instead a book should be taught because of it’s significant message that will educate students.
What is our topic?
Should “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee be banned from being taught in schools because of it’s explicit content? How has censorship impacted literature today?

To Kill A Mockingbird has been banned in many areas around world because of its inappropriate use of language and descriptive images Harper Lee portrays.
Although it has been it has been banned in many schools, it is also taught because through the novel it is able to show what is right from wrong.

How does censorship affect literature?
-Harper Lee uses explicit language to present realism, although it uses such vulgar language that include the N-word and others to have better idea of what is was like to live in a racist community.

-may intrude on the privacy of a person.
-prevents violence by stopping the broadcast of events, which might trigger it.
-Freedom of speech is eliminated.
-Religious conflicts are avoided by the censorship of material deemed insulting or offensive to a particular religious community.
-Prevents spreading of racism.
-Children are prevented from learning things that could harm them and others.
-Censoring information may lead to a wrong image perceived by the public.
